How to make turmeric tea

To make turmeric tea at home, follow these steps:

  1. Boil 3 to 4 cups of water on the stove.
  2. Add 2 teaspoons of turmeric and stir.
  3. Simmer for about 5 to 10 minutes.
  4. Strain the tea into another container.
  5. Add in honey, fresh squeezed lemon or orange juice, and milk to taste.

Note: You can make larger batches of this tea by increasing the ingredient measurement by x2, x4, etc. Store the extra tea in the refrigerator and heat up before consuming.

 

How Often Should You Drink Turmeric Tea?

Turmeric tea can be consumed 1-2 times per day, particularly if you are using the tea for a specific health concern. Provided you are not allergic to turmeric tea, which is quite unusual, there is a very small chance of experiencing any toxicity-related side effects by consuming too much. It is not recommended that anyone take more than 1500 milligrams of turmeric per day, as this can result in abnormal heart rhythms, but that is an incredibly large amount of this spice to be using.

As you will see below, making turmeric tea does not require very much of the spice to be effective, so you shouldn’t have to worry about frequency of use. If you find that the tea is helping improve your health, which you likely will, find the frequency that works for you and make it a regular part of your healthy diet!

 

Potential risks and complications

Turmeric is generally safe as long as you consume it in moderation. You should check with your doctor about drinking turmeric tea if you have had:

  • inflammation of the gallbladder or gallbladder stones
  • obstruction of bile passages
  • stomach ulcers
  • diabetes (turmeric supplements may lower blood sugar)
  • Taking too much turmeric may cause side effects, however. These include:
  • increased stomach acidity, which can cause ulcers
  • a blood-thinning effect

Because turmeric may thin your blood, you should stop drinking turmeric tea two weeks before surgery. Do not take turmeric tea if you are on blood thinners, either.
